Raging Thousand Guineas favourite, Atlantic Jewel, has been well backed to win the Cox Plate at Sportingbet Australia despite the fact the boom filly has not nominated for the race.
Sportingbet Australia CEO Michael Sullivan said Atlantic Jewel was the all the rage for Wednesday’s Thousand Guineas and she had also been the biggest shortener for the Cox Plate this week.
“Atlantic Jewel is $1.50 and looks near unbeatable in the Thousand Guineas and if she won that, connections would have to be tempted to go onto the Cox Plate,” Sullivan said.
“She has shortened from $11 to $8.00 for the Cox Plate in the last 24 hours and she is now on the third line of betting behind Helmet and Jimmy Choux.
“She will trim up even further if she bolts in the Thousand Guineas like many are expecting.”
Sullivan said the three year olds had been very popular in Cox Plate betting with the absence of a number of the genuine weight for age stars of recent years.
“Helmet is the $3.70 favourite following his enormous win in the Caulfield Guineas and Atlantic Jewel could well be second pick if she runs in the Cox Plate,” he said.
“The likes of So You Think, Whobegotyou, More Joyous, Shoot Out and Zipping dominated betting in the Cox Plate last year but none of them will he here so the three olds really come into contention.”
